10-GHz Optical Comb in L-Band Region With Brillouin/Erbium-Doped Fibre Laser

A multiwavelength Brillouin/erbium fibre laser (BEFL) which operates in the long wavelength (L-band) region is demonstrated for potential applications in an L-band wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) communication system. The laser configuration consists of a long erbium-doped fibre to enable L-band amplification where two 3-dB couplers take a portion of the generated BEFL signal and re-inject it into the single mode fibre to seed a cascaded BEFL line in the same direction as the first BEFL line. A stable and strong laser comb of up to five lines with 10-GHz spacing has been obtained with a Brillouin pump (BP) of 9.2 mW and a 980 nm pump of 92 mW. The BEFL has shown a broad tuning range with a tuning characteristic for line #1 which is flat over a range greater than 9.9 nm.     

Investigation of the self association of higher fatty alcohols and acids on chromatographic sorbents

Summary Three different sorbents, one with high activity (silica gel), the second with medium activity (cellulose powder) and the third having low activity (chromatographic paper) were compared in respect of their usefulness for the evaluation of the self association of selected higher fatty alcohols and acids. The obtained results are correlated with IR spectroscopic data and theoretical considerations.     

Bestimmung der Parameter des Potenzansatzes nach Ostwald-de Waele aus rheometrischen Messungen an einem Viskosimeter mit schnellrotierender Scheibe

Zusammenfassung Für die Bestimmung der Parameter desOstwaldde Waeleschen Modells zeigte sich die AbhÄngigkeit zwischen dem Momentkriterium und derReynolds- Zahl bei der Rotation einer Scheibe in einer nicht-Newtonschen Flüssigkeit, die durch Lösung der entsprechenden Bewegungsgleichungen unter der Voraussetzung Ähnlicher Geschwindigkeitsprofile gewonnen wurde, als geeignet.Der Gültigkeitsbereich dieser theoretisch berechneten AbhÄngigkeit wurde mit Hilfe experimenteller Daten bestimmt.Für die rasche Bearbeitung der aus Messungen mit einem Viskosimeter mit rotierender Scheibe gewonnenen Daten wurde eine graphische Methode für die Berechnung der rheologischen Parameter ausgearbeitet.     

Classification of genomic data: some aspects of feature selection

Feature selection, while working with genomic data sets, is of particular interest, not only for classification (diagnostics) improvement, but also for the data interpretability. Application of the multivariate feature selection approaches allows an efficient reduction of data dimensionality, but as demonstrated in our study, sets of the selected variables depend on the objective function of the classifier. It is possible to select different subset of genes for classification due to the correlation of genes but their interpretation ought to be cautiously made.
